GLOSSARY As in the other sections, you can click on the glossary image wherever you see it, and the glossary will open in another window. Just close that window when you are ready to continue.

Ok so that is pretty much the basics. By now you should be able to identify the basic elements of a supercell structure. You should also know what the reporting criteria is, and how to stay safe.

Can you identify on a diagram and a picture or even in person:

  • An overshooting top?
  • An anvil?
  • A backsheared anvil?
  • Mammatus ?
  • A Flanking line?
  • A rain free base?
  • A wall cloud, or the area where you would expect to find one?
  • A tornado, or the area you would expect to find one?
  • The main updraft region?
  • Where you would expect to find hail, and rain?
  • Do you know the difference between a wall cloud and a shelf cloud?
  • Can you determine a storms direction of movement by its features?
  • Do you know what you should report?
If you have trouble answering any of these you might want to go back and review before moving on to the advanced module.

If you feel confident you know this information, let's move on to the next module:
